Pakistan is going through has been suffering through Energy Shortages for over 2 decades now. There have been many campaigns on Energy Efficiency but USAID came with a targeted approach, Pakistan's Agri Sector is the third largest consumer of electricity in Pakistan and the only contributing factor to it is the Energy Inefficient Tubewell Water Pumps which are basically water pumps, pumping water into the fields.
Fact: Pakistan has one of the worst Energy Crisis in the world. Its GDP is growing by 8% every year and it is largely an Agri Economy which continues to depend on ground water to irrigate its crops. Currently, there are 210,000 tube well pumps (irrigation pumps) in Pakistan which are highly inefficient.
Due to limited understanding of differences in Energy Efficient and Inefficient Equipment, farmers are still using their outdated irrigation pumps which is resulting in increasing their electricity bill anything between 20 - 60%.
Every farmer has his season expenditure planned, to get a farmer interested in investing into a Energy Efficient Tubewell, they need to be engaged at least 6 months prior to the cutting of the crops.
Hi, My name is Samia Mehdi, I have over 5 years working as a Communications & Visual Design Strategist for United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Energy & Agriculture Projects and worked as Head of Communications for Stora Enso's (Renewable Packaging Business) Joint Venture. I have created website design and social media design for several NGOs in United States of America.
One of my early inspiration has been Muhammad Younus of Grameen Bank and my Professor at Goldsmiths, University of London, John Woods, with whom I spent a year exploring how good design can change the world.
ID SIGN (I Design) For Everyone is my commitment to find ways to create beautiful and simple communication & design for everyone; design which resonates with core audiences and while keeping the spirit of the core message at the center of design.
Mahira & Aatikah are supremely talented home-schooling mothers from New York, who have turned their love for crafting Parties for their friends into small Party Planning business. I collaborated with them to create a logo & identity. Since, most of their party decorations are hand-crafted, we decided to make their Artwork part of their logo. Mahira gave us her hand painted florals and Aatikah sketched some fun fireflies for us. We asked them, why have they named their Company Firefly: "It came across us while we were going over a poetry book. We like it because it reminded us of childhood. Running through the yard, catching these beautiful fireflies that looked like a little lantern. Kinda like nature's party." With a little bit of background and many iMessages later - VOILA!
